Ranch-style houses (also American Ranch or California Ranch) is an American domestic architectural style. First built in the 1930s, the ranch style was extremely popular in the United States during the 1950s to 1970s, as new suburbs were built for baby boomer families. Their popularity waned in the late 20th century as neo-eclectic house styles became popular.
A ranch style type of home typically is a one-story house, but can become a raised ranch or split level with room for expansion. Asymmetrical shapes are common with low-pitched roofs and a built-in garage (in rambling ranches). The exterior is faced with wood and bricks, or a combination of both. |
